Using the storyboards, we sequenced the shots in the same order. However during the editing process we felt that there were some shots that required changing for the benefit of the video.
- Shot 20 which was initially planned to be an establishing shot of the busy streets of York however we changed this to a location shot of York Minster as we had already shot some location shots that would appear throughout the video.
- In planning we intended shot 25 to be a long shot of the main character walking toward the camera when out filming we changed this to an extreme long shot from the side as it fit in with the surrounding area.
- Shot 29 initially intended to be the character sat on a bench however when out filming we decided to change this location. Instead we used the edge of the fountain as the fountain is a more of an iconic place.
- Shot 30 had been changed from a standard P.O.V shot to a long shot, which the character then steps into the frame as we felt it denoted how the character went back to see the guitarist after thinking on the fountain.
- Shot 3 on page 6 of the storyboard was the P.O.V shot from the characters eyes as he put money in the guitarists case. We have completely cut this shot out as we felt we had a sufficient amount of shots in this scene. We feel the long time of the shot that we replaced it with makes the audience feel more of a connection with how the main character is connecting with the guitarist.
- Shot 4 and 5 in on page 6 have been swapped around to add to the variety of shot distances
- Shot 6 on page 6 was left out as it didn't seem to fit in with the running order of the music.
Colour Grading
We have chose to add a colour grade to the entire video, giving it a warm feel, similar to video shot on film. We chose to do this as in the research, the other music videos of this band used vcr players and projection shots of film and therefore wanting to keep the analogue feel we added a colour grading to add to this collection that the bands music videos have.
The Last Shot
This shot was done by walking backwards with the camera and revealing all the characters together, as a band. We wanted to make it feel like the characters dreams of being in a band and having his life change direction by adding dreamy feeling effects. We have added a stabilisation program to make the camera track backwards smoothly and we have also increased the diffusion of the shot to make it more 'out of this world'. We finally added a small wobble effect to the clip in conjunction with a blur to fade out. This I feel creates a 'cliff hanger' feel to the music video as it hints that the character may have only been dreaming about this.
Overall I feel the video production as gone well. The variety of camera work and the pace of the shots express the mood of the song well, featuring no rapid cuts the whole video I feel runs together well. Particular shots I am pleased of are the ones that feature lens flares behind the character as the composition and location that we chose were a good choice. I also feel that the narrative of the music video moves at the correct pace. We have some shots that lower the standard of the video and that due to time issues can not be redone. The shot where the character begins to sing and it cuts to a side view and back to a front view while he is walking across a bridge is slightly out of continuity as you can see that the character has just began to walk again when the angle is changed. We have tried to eliminate this problem but due to lyrics needing to be seen we could not cut out the character just starting to walk again. There is also a shot in the church area that has dark lighting and feels a bit out of the style that the others shots are in.
